The US Department of Health and Human Services has denied Texas’ waiver request to adjust the 80-20 Medical Loss Ratio mandated under the Affordable Care Act.

Under the Affordable Care Act, 80% of a company’s health care dollars must go to towards health care costs instead of overhead and administrative expenses.

The decision specifically cites the letter signed by 15 Texas House Dems in opposition to the waiver request. You can read the letter here.

31 Texas House Dems also signed a letter to the Texas Department of Insurance asking the department to withdraw their waiver request. That letter is here.
